Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada.  As I've already said, it is not really celebrated around me, it's mostly a day off work!!

However, this year is the first year that I reflect on what I want to be thankful for.

A lot of things have changed in my life since last Thanksgiving.  A year ago, I was not out to anybody, yet I was preparing for my first coming out (I had actually planned on coming out to my parents on Thanksgiving night.... before backing up).

I am first thankful to me to have had that determination to go forward in my life and do the unimaginable.  I am thankful for the lucidity I had to realize that I was not so sure of who I was after coming out to my parents.  I am thankful to have done what was necessary to dig in my soul to understand who I was.  I am of course thankful to my parents for their acceptance of me.  I am thankful to the internet to have made me discover a lot of things about homosexuality and to have found people like me.  I am thankful to my counsellor for helping me connect with my emotions.  I am thankful to my cousin Sandy for being so exceptional.  I am thankful to my friend Jack for still being the same friend.  I am thankful to have created this blog and met a lot of great people through it and even becoming friends with some of them.  I am thankful for this new network that I don't think I could live without it, now that I have it.

All in all, I'm thankful for the progress I've made during the last year.

I wonder what I'll be thankful for next year :)

  1. Happy Thanksgiving! I will cook a turkey today (tiny) and make a pumpkin pie (because any reason for that) but we have no family here, so it's just kind of a day for my daughter and I to laze around and catch up on chores/reading/etc.

I've much to be thankful for, although some days I seem to forget it when the mundane crap presses in.

  2. I am so happy for you, JF. It is very easy to forget to be thankful for all the good things in our lives, and not reflect on what we have accomplished so far. Even though you have lots to look forward to, the looking back is helpful in taking the next step. I hope you have a truly joyous day off.

Today is a holiday in the US, also. It is Columbus Day.

  4. Gee, I wonder what you'll be thankful for next year....playful shower sex, wine, utter abuse of a new king-size bed. :-)

I'm glad you've made such progress - and also that you're able to appreciate each step.

Ann Marie, I'm reasonable, I "only" have a queen-size bed!! Let's see next year if your wishes for me come true !!

    1. My apologies to you and your comfy reasonably-sized bed. ;) I must have been thinking of two other adorable maniacs who abuse their bedroom furniture.

Oh, I'm pretty sure my wishes for you will come true. I think a line of applicants is forming as we speak.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving, JF. It's so cool you can look back over this past year and give yourself credit for some things to be proud of. Whenever I read your blog I can always sense your determination to keep growing and to be honest with yourself and others in your life. I always get a lot out of reading about what you're doing. ((HUGS)))

  8. I'm glad you started your blog. I don't say much but I always read about what you're doing. I'm not out to that many people yet but it's helping me to read how you're going about it. I like your humor and your honesty. I hope you know you're making a difference. Take care.

    1. Danny, you have no idea what your comment means to me. It is a hope I have to be able to make a difference in at least one person's life. I'm honored to have that impact in your lfe. I hope you can comment more in the future. I think the more different people talk about what they live or what they can't live yet, the more we all grow.

BTW, thanks for liking my humor. I'm not sure where you saw it, but for sure you have not seen 5% of it!!

    2. Thanks. I might try commenting more. It's easier for me to do this online than in person anyway.
